Clynelish 19yo 1996/2016 SV for TBD
Clynelish 19yo 1996/2016 (50.9%, Signatory Vintage for The Bonding Dram, Hogshead 6406, 269 bottles)
Clynelish was built in 1967 in the Scottish Highlands, adjacent to the original Clynelish distillery (°1819), that was re-named Brora in May 1969 and operated until 1983 to cover the shortage of Islay whisky during the drought on the famous whisky island. The (new) Clynelish is a much appreciated single malt in its own right, but also contributes greatly to premium blends, such as Johnnie Walker Gold Label. The distillery uses the old (now Brora) buildings as a visitor center and warehouse. The first official single malt appeared in 2002 – the popular 14 Year Old – and Diageo picked Clynelish to represent the Coastal Eastern Highlands in their expanded Classic Malts range in 2005. Today, they produce about 4.2 million litres of spirit per year, using 3 wash stills and 3 spirit stills that are exact copies of the original distillery. Many independent bottlers have released exceptional casks.
